Dream Life?

This is an ARTICLE that I found posted on Facebook from MindBodyGreen that I found rather interesting about 5 questions you can answer to reach your dream life. In and of itself, I suppose that's not bad. I mean, I'm a goal oriented person myself, and I know that it is healthy to set goals for ourselves and to engage in introspection in order to achieve those goals and become, overall, a more well rounded and generally "better" person.

However, I feel like articles like this are slightly misleading. We are told all our lives that we need to achieve complete and total happiness, or that we are only successful once we have reached out (dream life) and that until we have gotten to that Utopia, we can't be happy. We work our asses off day in and day out in pursuit of this, and waste many beautiful days and hours without acknowledgement.

Being goal oriented is a good thing, but we also need to learn to enjoy the journey and live in the present. Life is a roller coaster. It's not about going through the roller coaster with the intent of getting off at the end and being like "I completed the roller coaster". It's about enjoying and moving through the ups and downs as they come.

And another thing. We work so hard to reach this "dream life" that we believe must fit a certain formula. When our life does not meet those requirements we believe that we must be unhappy. How about we try to be content with what we have here in this moment. Instead of focusing on what we feel like our life should look like, focus on enjoying what you have.

Like I said, I'm not saying we shouldn't make goals and work to improve our lives and ourselves, but I am saying that there needs to be more balance between dreams for the future and living in the present. Life is short, and many beautiful moments often fly by, untouched by the seeing eyes of the world. Unappreciated.

Today was a beautiful day. It was warm outside and the sun was lightly kissing the grass and it was beautiful. I heard a song on the radio and it was beautiful. I saw a cloud in the sky and it was beautiful. My boyfriend smiled at me and held my hand and it was beautiful.

Now can be the best days of our lives if that's what we choose.
