Resources I've Found Helpful

Here I'm going to tell you guys about some of the books and workbooks I've used for recovery (or am planning to use in the future).

The book that I read when deciding whether or not to go to therapy was Portia de Rossi's "Unbearable Lightness." It's basically her memoir and experiences with Anorexia and coming out of the closet.

Then I moved on to "Gaining: The Truth About Life After Eating Disorders" by Liu Aimee, which talks about some of the psychology and science of what's going on, as well as what it's like living without it. She also outlines her personal experiences and does interviews with many other sufferers. I HIGHLY recommend this one.

My therapist set me on "The Anorexia Workbook" (which utilizes ACT therapy. See my entry on ACT vs. CBT) by Michelle Heffner and Georg H. Eifert. I completed this and felt that it had helped me some. It made me want to recover. Now I'm just working on the recovering itself.

Right now I'm doing "The Body Image Workbook" by Thomas F Cash. I'm not too far into it, so I can't say for sure how much it is going to help.

My new therapist has asked me to read "Life without ED" by Jenni Schaefer and "Hope, Help & Healing for Eating Disorders" by Gregory L. Jantz. I have not started either of these either.

For the parents out there, I suggest "Talking to Eating Disorders: Simple Ways to Support Someone with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating, or Body Image Issues" by Jeanna Albronda Heaton and Claudia J. Strauss.

I hope some of these resources are helpful
